The Cuban Coast Guard announced that a ship without a captain on board had been intercepted on its way to the island, and it is presumed that it is the SS Cotopaxi ship, a vagrant steamboat that was reported missing in December 1925 and that It was very fast linked to the legend of the Bermuda Triangle.

The Cuban authorities discovered the ship on May 16 from a closed military zone, west of Havana. Numerous failed attempts to communicate with the crew were made and three patrol boats were mobilized to intercept the ship.

When they arrived, they were surprised to find that the ship was actually a 100-year-old ship registered as Cotopaxi, a famous name associated with the legend of the Bermuda Triangle.

There was no one on board and the ship appeared to be abandoned for decades, suggesting that this could be the freighter that disappeared in 1925.

An exhaustive search of the ship led to discover the newspaper of the captain who was sailing it during those years. It was, in fact, associated with the Clinchfield Navigation Company, the owners of the SS Cotopaxi, but did not provide any clue about what happened to the ship in the last 90 years.

A Cuban expert on these issues, Rodolfo Cruz Salvador, says that the captain's logbook is very genuine. This document contains important information about the crew of the routine life that they led before the disappearance of the ship, but the captain suddenly stopped writing in the newspaper as of December 1, 1925.

On November 29, 1925, the SS Cotopaxi departed from Charleston, South Carolina and headed to Havana, Cuba. The ship had a crew of 32 sailors and was under the command of Captain WJ Meyer, and was carrying a load of 2340 tons of coal.

His disappearance was reported two days later and had not been seen in the last 90 years.

The vice president of the Council of Ministers, General Colomé, informed that the Cuban authorities are going to do an investigation to unravel the mystery of the disappearance and reappearance of the ship.

“It's very, very important for us to understand what happened. “Said Colomé general. “These types of accidents can be very bad for our economy, so we must ensure that this type of loss does not happen again.
